There are firsts you don't forget, and this was a pretty special one.
Leaves of Love officially made its first plant delivery at The Nursing Center at Little Creek in Knoxville, marking an exciting milestone for our young organization: our first senior care community, our first group of plants and our first opportunity to put the idea behind Leaves of Love into action.
From an idea to a cart full of plants
Leaves of Love began with a simple idea: bring something living and beautiful into the spaces people call home, then keep showing up to care for it. At Little Creek, that idea became real.
Plants were brought in for residents who wanted one, with varieties selected to be safe, beautiful and well suited for life indoors. Our first delivery included spider plants, parlor palms, prayer plants and other leafy companions ready to find their new homes.
And while seeing a cart full of plants rolling through the halls was pretty wonderful, the plants themselves were only part of what made the day meaningful.
The delivery is only the beginning
One of the things that makes Leaves of Love a little different is that we don't simply deliver a plant and say goodbye. Our volunteers return regularly to check on each plant, give it the water and care it needs and replace it if necessary. That means a plant isn't simply a one-time gift. It's also a reason to come back.
And every time we come back, there's an opportunity for something else to grow. Maybe it's a quick hello while we water a plant. Maybe it's a conversation about how much it's grown. Maybe we stay for a few minutes and hear a story. Over time, we hope those little moments become familiar faces, easy conversations and genuine connections.
There's never any pressure. Residents can enjoy their plants and participate as much or as little as they'd like. We simply want to keep showing up.
Growing from here
We're incredibly grateful to The Nursing Center at Little Creek for being the first senior care community to welcome Leaves of Love through its doors and help us turn an idea into something real. This first plant drop was a small beginning, but that's exactly what Leaves of Love is about: believing that small things can matter.
A plant can brighten a room. Caring for it can give someone a reason to stop by. A simple hello can turn into a conversation. And, given a little time, a conversation can grow into a connection.
We're excited to see where Leaves of Love grows from here. Our first community. Our first plant delivery. And the first of many connections we hope are still to come.
